Our Story
Inspired simultaneously by a passion for paddling, bamboo, art and furniture design, founder Thomas Huang (named a 2007 American Craft Council - Searchlight Artist) constructed his first Bamboo Canoe in 2009. Combining North American wood strip building techniques with the iconically Asian material, his first vessel, named “Emigrant Spirit”, is a manifestation of his desire to weave his mixed Asian American heritage into an object of enduring meaning and beauty to be passed on to his children and future generations. His personal journey evolved into an understanding that others share his belief - objects of function can transcend common place utility to become touchstones of journeys taken, experiences shared, and lessons learned. It is the realization that the joy of paddling and exploring the unknown in a beautiful vessel can inspire our souls, reconnect us to our environment, and link us from generation to generation.
We are a growing company located in Lawrence, Kansas dedicated to sharing our love of paddling and the crafting of fine vessels. In choosing our boats, we feel you are not just investing in a lifetime of joy on the water, but several lifetimes of stories and adventures to share around the fireside.
